Matchbox Twenty is an American rock band, formed in Orlando, Florida, in 1995. The group currently consists of Rob Thomas (lead vocals, guitar, keyboards), Brian Yale (bass guitar), Paul Doucette (drums, rhythm guitar, backing vocals), and Kyle Cook (lead guitar, backing vocals). Matchbox Twenty rose to international fame with their debut album, Yourself or Someone Like You (1996), which was certified 12× Platinum (diamond) in the United States and sold over 15 million copies worldwide. The album was nominated for Album of the Year and produced four singles, including “Real World” and “Push”, which were top 40 hits on the Billboard Hot 100.
The band released their second album, Mad Season, in 2000. The album sold more than 3 million copies and was certified 4× Platinum in the United States. It produced three singles, “Bent”, “Disease”, and “If You’re Gone”. “Bent” peaked at number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and spent a record-breaking 16 weeks on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. “If You’re Gone” was nominated for a Grammy Award for Song of the Year.
